Behiç Ak Samsun’da doğdu. İstanbul’da mimarlık öğrenimi gördü. 1982’den beri Cumhuriyet gazetesinde bant karikatür çiziyor. Çocuk kitabı yazarlığı ve çizerliği, oyun yazarlığı ve sanat yönetmenliğinin yanı sıra belgesel film çalışmaları da var. İlk yayımlandığı Japonya’da ödül kazanan Yüksek Tansiyonlu Çınar Ağacı adlı resimli çocuk kitabı, Günışığı Kitaplığı tarafından özgün bir tasarımla yenilendi ve Çince’ye çevrildi (2014). Okuma serüvenine yeni başlayanlar için felsefeye giriş niteliğindeki “Tombiş Kitaplar” dizisi de, Benim Bir Karışım’la başladı, beşinci kitap Tombiş Maskeli Baloya Katılmak İstemiyor’la sürüyor. Otuz yıllık karikatür birikimini Karikatür Kitabı adlı özel bir albümle çocuklara sunan sanatçının, “Gülümseten Öyküler” adı altında yazıp çizdiği kitaplar her yaştan okurun ilgisini topluyor. Yaşasın Ç Harfi Kardeşliği! adlı çocuk romanı Ankara Üniversitesi Çocuk ve Gençlik Edebiyatı Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi’nin (ÇOGEM) 2014 Çocuk ve Gençlik Edebiyatı Roman Ödülü’nü ve Çocuk ve Gençlik Yayınları Derneği’nin (ÇGYD) 2013 Yılın Çocuk Romanı Ödülü’nü kazandı. Çatıdaki Gezegen ve Bulutlara Şiir Yazan Çocuk kitaplarıyla genişleyen çocuk romanı koleksiyonuna ise son olarak Tavşan Dişli Bir Gözlemcinin Notları eklendi. Okul öncesi çocuklar için hazırladığı ve ilk baskılarını Japonya da yapan, Uyurgezer bir fil, Kedi adası, Rüzgarın üzerindeki şehir gibi kitapları Can yayınlarından çıkmıştır. kitapları Bilyeler ve Gökdelene Giren Bulut gibi resimli öykü kitaplarıyla da çok sevilen sanatçı, İstanbul’da yaşıyor.
Behiç Ak is a multidisciplinary artist. He is well known for the daily cartoons he has been drawing for the Cumhuriyet Newspaper since 1982, his playwritings, his documentary films and his children’s books. He gathered lots of attention from readers of all ages with his series “Cheerful Stories” basing on social critism. The award-winning colourful picture book High Tension Plane Tree (Yüksek Tansiyonlu Çınar Ağacı), which was first published in Japan, was renewed by Günışığı Kitaplığı with an authentic design and translated into Chinese (2014). His “Chubby Books” series is an introduction to philosophy for small readers. The cartoons selected from his 30 years archive were gathered in The Book of Cartoons (Karikatür Kitabı) published by Günışığı Kitaplığı. His children’s novel Hurray for the Brotherhood of Ç! (Yaşasın Ç Harfi Kardeşliği) received IBBY Turkey’s “Children’s Novel of the Year” award in 2013 and “2014 Children and Young Adult’s Novel” award of Ankara University, Children and YA Books Research Centre. Behiç Ak was born in Samsun and studied architecture in Istanbul. He is known for the daily cartoons he has been drawing for the Cumhuriyet Newspaper since 1982 and his playwritings. His cartoons were exhibited in several countries. Besides his plays Seperation (Ayrılık) and Building (Bina), his two plays Fault Line (Fay Hattı) andCity for One (Tek Kişilik Şehir), which were staged in Europe has attracted big interest. Awarded for his work in the field of documentary film, the artist concentrated on writing and illustrating children's books. He gathered lots of attention from readers of all ages with his series “Cheerful Stories” based on social critism. (Benim Bir Karışım), Chubby Doesn’t Want to Join the Masquerade (Tombiş Maskeli Baloya Katılmak İstemiyor), Behiç Ak collected the cartoons selected from his 30 years archive in The Book of Cartoons (Karikatür Kitabı). His children’s novel Hurray for the Brotherhood of Ç! (Yaşasın Ç Harfi Kardeşliği) received IBBY Turkey’s “Children’s Novel of the Year” award in 2013 and “2014 Children and Young Adult’s Novel” award of Ankara University, Children and YA Books Research Centre, Behiç Ak’s latest children’s novel, in which he defends all living beings’ right to live is Notes of a Buck-Toothed Observer (Tavşan Dişli Bir Gözlemcinin Notları).
